Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure which results in firmer, smoother and more radiant skin. We use a Dermapen, a small device covered in fine and shallow sterile needles, to glide over the face and create thousands of temporary 'micro channels'. This immediately stimulates the skin to enter its natural healing phase; generating new collagen, repairing skin tissue and enhancing blood supply. This also allows an enhanced penetration of the mesotherapy serums used during treatment. These specialised serums contain sterile, medical grade pharmaceuticals to target your specific skin concerns, and may be blended uniquely for you using hyaluronic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C, peptides, amino acids and many more. Applying this serum during a Microneedling treatment ensures the molecules are penetrated much further into the skin than if it had only been applied to the surface.

Treatments will be 4-6 weeks apart for targeted concerns.

You will be given a treatment moisturiser and SPF to use following your appointments.

Please read our Facials Pre and Post Care before your Microneedling appointment!

Microneedling generates new collagen and elastin production, which has a wide range of rejuvenating benefits. Short term effects can include an increase in the skin's plumpness, firmness and luminosity. In the longer term, clients can expect to see an improvement to fine lines, pores, wrinkles, loose skin and pigmentation. Microneedling is also successfully used to help reduce the appearance of acne scarring and stretch marks (white and silvered marks may not have successful results), and can stimulate hair growth when there is hair present in the follicle.

You should see a change in clarity and radiance after your first week of Microneedling. However, it is an accumulative treatment and clearer visible benefits to your skin may take up to 6 weeks to appear. Full benefits may not be seen in their entirety for 3 to 6 months after a course of treatments. Your skin continues to improve over a 12 month period.

Microneedling is suitable for most skin types.

A full consultation will be carried out prior to any Microneedling treatment. Please bring the details of your skincare regime with you, along with information about any medication you are taking.

This treatment is not suitable for the following conditions and may need a GP/Midwife note: pregnancy, Roaccutane (Isotretinoin) within the past 12 months, diabetes, infectious skin conditions, history of keloid scarring or poor wound healing, active acne grade 3 or above, acne rosacea, botox/fillers within 6 months of treatment, chemotherapy/radiation treatment within the past 12 months, herpes simplex or any other infectious/chronic skin condition in the area to be treated, open wounds, cuts and abrasions in the area to be treated, taking blood thinning medications, eczema/psoriasis in the area being treated, taking immunosuppressants.

Please call the salon and read our Terms and Conditions for more information.

To get the best out of your treatment, please read the below instructions carefully and follow them as strictly as possible to ensure your own health and safety.

We recommend having this treatment no closer together than every four weeks, in order to allow the skin to complete its normal cycle.

Everyone's skin is unique, so it is difficult to say exactly how many treatments you may need. Some skin concerns may also take slightly longer than others to treat. We recommend 3 treatments with 4-6 weeks between them, or up to a maximum of 6 treatments.

A maintenance top up treatment may be required annually.

We advise you avoid exposure to sun and excessive heat for two weeks prior to treatment, including the day of your appointment and for three days after. This includes the use of sunbeds, sunbathing, steam rooms, hot tubs, saunas and heavy workouts. This is to ensure your skin is not overly sensitised.

In some facials, the top layer of dead skin cells has been removed which can make your skin sensitive to light. SPF is your friend! Sun protection must be worn for three days prior to treatment. It is extremely important that you wear a broad spectrum, high level SPF for a week after your treatment.

You must keep your skin well moisturised for one week post treatment. After one week you should be able to return to your usual skincare routine, but it is advised you discuss this with your therapist to ensure you are not using anything counterproductive.

We are happy to advise you on the right skincare to use, however it is not going to be one that you can buy on the high street as it may be counterproductive to the treatment you have had. We will recommend what we use as this is what we are highly trained in, and feel that if we don’t give you the correct information you cannot make an informed decision on how to invest in your skin! But please remember that there is no pressure to buy!

If, as part of your treatment, you have been given a treatment moisturiser and SPF please ensure that you use it. This isn’t just your therapist being nice (although they are lovely!), you’ve been given it because your skin needs the further protection and hydration after your facial. We are all about prolonging the benefits for you as best we can, but you will also need to play your part too.

If you are taking medications that are to treat skin conditions or medications that will make your skin sensitive, please make sure to speak to your therapist before the treatment commences.

Please do not arrive to your appointment with wet or damp hair.

Avoid chlorine for twenty-four hours.

Avoid facial waxing for seven days. Facial waxing may be performed up to a fourty-eight hours prior.

Avoid dermal fillers and Botox/Xeomin for two to three weeks, both prior and post treatment.

Do not pick, scratch or aggressively rub the treated areas and try your best to avoid touching your face.

Up your intake of water! Yes, we know it's not as tasty as coffee, tea etc but water will keep you hydrated and is actually great for improving your skin's complexion. You've just had a facial - reap the benefits!

No scrubs or cleansing brushes should be used for seven days post treatment.
You may experience a slight windburn sensation, blotchiness and/or peeling. Your skin may also feel warm, tight, slightly itchy, dry and flaky during the first few days. This is completely normal.

A mild stinging/scratching sensation may be felt during treatment. This sensation should only last for a few hours.

Skincare products may tingle for the first day. Your therapist will advise you on which products to avoid.

You should expect to see some erythema (redness) immediately after treatment. This is normal and should disappear after 24-48 hours, dependent on your skin type and aftercare, to leave you with beautiful, glowing skin.

After your facial, it is recommended that you do not wear make up for a minimum of 12 hours. However, if you use a pure mineral brand, or would like us to apply a base application of Jane Iredale Mineral Make up, this would be fine.

A topical numbing cream is applied in most cases and left to absorb into the skin before treatment commences.
