Dermaplaning

"First time I’ve ever had dermaplaning, my face felt fresh and alive!! Quite scary when you see what comes off face."
Jill, January 2018

Dermaplaning is a form of exfoliation that utilises a specialised, sterile surgical instrument to carefully remove weeks of dead skin cells and debris, along with 'peach fuzz' (or vellus hair).

Once the skin has been properly prepped, the blade is gently glided across the surface of the skin whilst the therapist holds the skin taut. There is always the possibility of a nick or cut, however your therapist will do everything possible to minimise this. A nourishing moisturiser and SPF are applied in order to protect the skin.

We recommend having this treatment no closer together than every four weeks, in order to allow the skin to complete its normal cycle.

Please read our Facials Pre and Post Care before your Dermaplaning appointment!

Dermaplaning has a wide range of benefits. You can expect to see an instant improvement in your skin's texture and tone; it should immediately appear smoother and brighter. Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced and deeper product penetration is achieved. The removal of soft facial hair ('peach fuzz' or vellus hair) prevents dirt and oil getting trapped, should result in a more flawless makeup application and clearer skin. Vellus hair will slowly grow back over a period of four weeks, but it will not become thicker or darker after Dermaplaning. Long term benefits can include an increased cell turnover, reduction of superficial acne scarring and fewer wrinkles and dark spots overall.

We would expect a single facial to give immediate effects, however we recommend three or more treatments in order to see long term benefits. Facials can be repeated every four weeks. Please speak to your therapist or call the salon for further details.

Dermaplaning is completely safe for most people, when performed by a qualified and insured professional.

Please call the salon and read our Terms and Conditions for more information.

Anyone who has facial waxing must wait a minimum of 48 hours before having this treatment.

Please be aware, we may need a GP note if you suffer from any of the following: severe active acne, diabetes, on heart medication, sensitive skin such as rosacea, eczema or psoriasis, contagious skin disorders, roaccutane users, those using RetinA, taking blood thinners and some oral antibiotics for skin concerns.

This treatment is suitable during pregnancy but a note from your midwife/GP will be needed before booking.

To get the best out of your treatment, please read the below instructions carefully and follow them as strictly as possible to ensure your own health and safety.

We recommend having this treatment no closer together than every four weeks, in order to allow the skin to complete its normal cycle.

We advise you avoid exposure to sun and excessive heat for two weeks prior to treatment, including the day of your appointment and for three days after. This includes the use of sunbeds, sunbathing, steam rooms, hot tubs, saunas and heavy workouts. This is to ensure your skin is not overly sensitised.

In some facials, the top layer of dead skin cells has been removed which can make your skin sensitive to light. SPF is your friend!

We are happy to advise you on the right skincare to use, however it is not going to be one that you can buy on the high street as it may be counterproductive to the treatment you have had. We will recommend what we use as this is what we are highly trained in, and feel that if we don’t give you the correct information you cannot make an informed decision on how to invest in your skin! But please remember that there is no pressure to buy!

If, as part of your treatment, you have been given a treatment moisturiser and SPF please ensure that you use it. This isn’t just your therapist being nice (although they are lovely!), you’ve been given it because your skin needs the further protection and hydration after your facial. We are all about prolonging the benefits for you as best we can, but you will also need to play your part too.

If you are taking medications that are to treat skin conditions or medications that will make your skin sensitive, please make sure to speak to your therapist before the treatment commences.

Please do not arrive to your appointment with wet or damp hair.

Avoid chlorine for twenty-four hours.

Avoid facial waxing for seven days. Facial waxing may be performed up to a fourty-eight hours prior to Dermaplaning.

Avoid dermal fillers and Botox/Xeomin for two to three weeks, both prior and post treatment.

Do not pick, scratch or aggressively rub the treated areas and try your best to avoid touching your face.

Up your intake of water! Yes, we know it's not as tasty as coffee, tea etc but water will keep you hydrated and is actually great for improving your skin's complexion. You've just had a facial - reap the benefits!

No scrubs or cleansing brushes should be used for seven days post treatment.

You may experience a slight windburn sensation, blotchiness and/or peeling for the first few days. This is normal.

Skincare products may tingle for the first day. Your therapist will advise you on which products to avoid.

Sun protection must be worn for three days prior to treatment.

After your facial, it is recommended that you do not wear make up for a minimum of 12 hours. However, if you use a pure mineral brand, or would like us to apply a base application of Jane Iredale Mineral Make up, this would be fine.
